Water : Carbost / Cnoc nan Speireag.
Remark : (A Classic Malt of Scotland).
A 10 year old and the only malt produced on Skye. Its seaweedy, smoky nose and sweet maltiness is perfectly complimented by its spicy, long finish.

Talisker is the only distillery on the Isle of Skye. The taste of the whisky reminds you of its place of birth.

From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
The only distillery on the Isle of Skye is the Talisker Distillery which was founded in 1831. The distillery was originally situated at Snizort, to the north of the island, but was closed and mysteriously moved. It has five stills. During its operational life it has been rebuilt and modernised a couple of times the last being in 1960-62 after the stillhouse was destroyed by fire on 22 November 1960. The name comes from a farm 6 miles away. The owner in 1880 was imprisoned after being found guilty of selling whisky that was supposedly maturing in the warehouse, in fact the warehouse did not even exist!
The make was triple distilled until 1928.
Situated in a gentle bowl which forms a lonely, very sheltered glen on the west coast of Skye.
Water comes from a burn on the slopes of Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill), cooling water comes from the Carbost Burn.

Campbell Distillers complements its Aberlour 10 Year Old with two new single malts: Aberlour 15 and 18 Year Old Sherry Wood Malts.
The 15 Year Old is matured in both bourbon and sherry casks, then finished in sherry wood. It has a light smokiness, with a delicately soft, but warm finish.
The 18 Year Old is matured wholly in sherry casks, an assertive malt that is smoky on the nose.
These new whiskies and the 10 Year Old have Aberlour's new packaging, featuring the Fleming family motto: Let The Deed Show. Taste the deed yourself!
Contact Ann Higgins (732/450-9223) for information on finding these limited availability whiskies.

From the book 'The Scottish Collection' – classic malts by Carol P. Shaw:
Tasting notes : A smooth, sherried Speyside malt which is an ideal after-dinner drink. Tasting rating = 3
Established in the 1860's, Aberlour Distillery was rebuilt in the 1880's after its destruction in a fire. It sits below Ben Rinnes from whose slopes it draws its water, said to be an important characteristic of its distinctive flavour. In the distillery grounds is the well of St. Drostan (or Dunstan), the tenth-century missionary and patron Canterbury. Since its acquisition by the Pernod Richard company in 1974, Aberlour has been well marketed in France, where it is one of the most popular of Scotch whiskies. The company also owns the Irish Distillers Group.

From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
Aberlour was founded in 1826 by James Gordon & Peter Weir at the feet of Ben Rinnes. The distillery was rebuilt in 1879 after a fire. This is the date which appears on the label. In 1973 the distillery was re-equipped with four stills.
The Aberlour Glenlivet Distillery Company is a subsidiary of Campbell Distillers, itself a part of Pernod-Ricard. Aberlour is a delightful village by the Lour at the foot of Ben Rinnes, from the summit of which, ten counties (from Caithness in the north, to Perthshire in the south) are visible. The early Christian missionary, St. Dunstan (or St. Drostan as he was known in Scotland) used the waters of the Lour for baptisms.
Aberlour is situated about a quarter of a mile below the Linn of Ruthrie, a 30 foot cascade on Ben Rinnes which falls into the pool which gives rise to the Lour Burn. The distillery is about 300 yards from the Lour's confluence with the River Spey.
The water is taken from a spring on Ben Rinnes.

Water : Rises from whinnstone flecked with iron and gold, and uns through pine, spunce, birch and bracken.

Remark : Mostly used within blends.
The still is on the edge of the pretty town of the same name.
(It still the 'heart malt' of their blend – the most popular Scotch in the U.S.A.)
Aberfeldy Distillery was constructed somewhere around 1896-97, depending on your source, but opened for production in 1898.
Aberfeldy is located in the rasberry-growing region of Scotland and overlooks the Tay Valley. The red squirrel on the label is inspired by the beautiful woodland setting that borders the distillery and is home to a colony of rare red squirrels.
The distillery has been in continuous production since its inception, except for a short period during World War II.
Almost all of its production now goes into United Distiller's blends, most notably Dewar's White Label.
The single malt is relatively rare, usualy only becoming available in official bottlings in the Distillery.

From The book : The Scottish Collection / Classic Malts by Carol P. Shaw
Tasting Notes : Basicly a dry malt with a medium body and clean, fresh character, but with a distinctly peaty background.
Aberfeldy Distillery stands near the River Tay, at the town from which it takes its name. Building began in 1896 and the distillery opned two years later. It was built by Dewar but passed with that company into the ownership of the Distillers Company Ltd. in 1925. Almost all of its production now goes into United Distillers' blends, most notably Dewar's White Label. The single malt is still relatively rare, only becomming available in official bottlings in the Distillery (Flora and Fauna) Malts series early in the 1990's.

From the Whisky pilot by Uniqum Systems :
Aberfeldy Distillery is located immediately to the east of the village of the same name; next to the former railway line and the main A827 road and overlooking the River Tay. The distillery lies in a beautiful setting, with close by woodland housing a rare colony of red squirrels.
Originally built between 1896-8 by Perth-based blenders, John Dewar & Sons Ltd, it was extensively rebuilt during the 60s and 70s. Previously about a dozen distilleries had been opened in the Aberfeldy neighbourhood by men who had been smugglers in earlier times.
Now part of John Dewar & Sons Ltd., Aberfeldy remains at the heart of the world famous Dewar's blend.
Aberfeldy takes its water from the Pitilie Burn.
The distillery sports a Visitors Centre ans a shop.

From The book : The Malt Whisky File by Robin Tucek and John Lamond – The connoisseur's guide to malt whiskies and their distilleries.
Built between 1896-8 by Perth-based blenders, John Dewar & Sons Ltd. Run by SMD since 1930, Dewar's having joined DCL in 1925. The distillery building is most impressive. The still house and tun-room were rebuilt in 1972/3 using the original stonework. Four stills. Now part of United Distillers plc, Aberfeldy remains at the heart of the world famous Dewar's blends.
Location : Immediately to the east of the village of the same name; next to the former railway line and the main A827 road and overlooking the River Tay.
Notes : Previously about a dozen distilleries had been opened in the Aberfeldy neighbourhood by men who had been smugglers in earlier times. The distillery lies in a beautiful setting, with close by woodland housing a rare colony of red squirrels, hence the label. Tommy Dewar set off on a two year world tour in 1892. He returned with 32 new agents in 26 different countries.

From the Scotch Doc.:
Aberfeldy Distillery was constructed somewhere around 1896-97, depending on your source, but opened for production in 1898. Aberfeldy is located in the rasberry-growing region of Scotland and overlooks the Tay Valley.
